The Ramkund is in panchvati area in Nashik.

In 1696, this holy tank was built by Chitrarao Khatarkar that spans an area of 27 m by 12 m. It is believed that during the period of exile, Rama and Sita used to bathe in this tank or ‘kund.’ This tank contains holy water and even today, the ashes of a dead person are immersed in this tank by religious Hindus so that the dead can attain salvation. Some of the renowned personalities whose ashes have been immersed in this tank are Indira Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Y B Chavan.

Ramkund Hundreds of pilgrims arrive here to take a holy dip at the ‘Ramkund’ in the river Godavari, which is considered the ‘Ganges of the south’. Ramkund is the spot where the river Godavari turns to right at an angle of 90 degrees and gains importance, as Lord Ram is said to have taken his daily bath here, during his stay at Nashik. Ram Kund is also where hindus perform the last rite of their dead.
